AustraliaFree (“AustraliaFree”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the choices you have when using the AustraliaFree mobile application (the “App”) and our website australiafree.com.au (the “Site”).
By using the App or Site, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use AustraliaFree.
Information We Collect
1) Personal Information you provide
Account & profile: Email address, password (hashed), display name, optional profile details you add.
Communications: Your messages to us (support requests, feedback).
2) Location data (with your permission)
Precise GPS: When you submit locations, take geotagged photos, start activity tracking, or use “current location”.
Location history: GPS tracks/routes you record during activities.
Approximate location: For map/nearby features when precise GPS is off.
3) Content you create
Photos & media: Images you upload (including EXIF metadata if present).
Location submissions: Names, descriptions, categories, features, and other details you contribute.
Itineraries & bookmarks: Lists you create, share codes, folders, favourites, notes, and settings.
Reviews/comments: Feedback or notes you add to locations.
4) Usage & device data
App usage: Feature use, screens viewed, session timestamps.
Device info: Device type, OS, App version, unique device identifiers.
Log data: IP address, time and date of requests, crash/diagnostic reports.
Permissions: The App may request access to Location, Camera, Photos/Media, and Notifications. You can change permissions in your device settings at any time.
How We Use Your Information
Core functionality
Provide maps, nearby discovery, and search.
Enable submissions, photo uploads, itineraries, favourites, and share codes.
Power activity tracking and GPX recording.
Authenticate and manage accounts.
Communication
Send verification and service emails (e.g., changes to terms, safety/security notices).
Respond to support requests.
Improvement & safety
Analyse aggregate usage to improve performance and features.
Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, or security issues.
Moderate community content to maintain data quality.

Contract: To provide the App and features you request.

Public content
Submitted locations: Names, descriptions, images, and related details you publish are visible to all users.
Itineraries: Only visible to others if you share a code or link.

We use trusted vendors to operate the App, including:
Cloud hosting & databases (e.g., Supabase), object storage (e.g., Azure),
Image processing (e.g., thumbnail generation, metadata handling),
Analytics & diagnostics, email delivery, and support tools.
These providers may process personal information on our behalf under data protection agreements and appropriate safeguards.
Legal, safety, and business transfers
We may disclose information to:
Comply with laws, legal process, or lawful requests.
Protect the rights, property, or safety of AustraliaFree, our users, or the public.
A buyer or successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
We do not sell your personal information. We also do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Data Storage, International Transfers & Security
Where data is stored: In Australia and/or other countries where our service providers operate. If we transfer personal data from the EEA/UK to countries without an adequacy decision, we rely on safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).
Retention: We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the App and for legitimate business/legal purposes. You can delete your account at any time; published community content may be retained or anonymised to preserve database integrity.
Security: We use industry-standard protections, including encryption in transit/at rest (where applicable), access controls, and regular reviews. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
Your Rights & Choices
In the App
Access & update: View or edit your profile/account details.
Delete account: Remove your account from the App settings or by contacting us.
Location & permissions
GPS control: Turn location services on/off in device settings.
Activity tracking: Start/stop recording anytime.
Photo location: You can upload photos without location data.
Communications
Emails: You may opt out of non-essential emails (service emails may still be sent).
Push notifications: Manage in device settings.
Region-specific rights
Australia (APPs): Access and correction rights; lodge complaints with the OAIC.
EEA/UK (GDPR): Rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, and data portability; withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.
California (CCPA/CPRA): Rights to know, access, correct, delete, and to opt-out of “sale”/“sharing” (we do not sell/share), and to limit use of sensitive information.
We may need to verify your identity before actioning a request. We will respond within the timeframes required by law.
Children’s Privacy
AustraliaFree is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

The App/Site may link to third-party websites or services (e.g., map or commerce sites). Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. Please review those policies before providing information.
User-Generated Content & Moderation
Submissions may be reviewed for accuracy, safety, and compliance with our community guidelines. If you delete your account, we may retain or anonymise published contributions to maintain the integrity and continuity of the community database.

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated Policy in the App/Site and/or sending an email. The “Last updated” date shows when this Policy last changed. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Policy.
